I wish to draw your attention to decision VIII/29 adopted by the eighth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP-8) to the Convention on Biological Diversity held in Curitiba, Brazil, from 20 to 31 March 2006. By paragraph 2 of the decision, the Conference of the Parties “invites Parties and other Governments to submit to the Executive Secretary examples of national/domestic legislation and case-studies relating to liability and redress for damage to biological diversity, including approaches to valuation and restoration, and requests the Executive Secretary to compile this information and disseminate it through the clearing-house mechanism.
