Native in eastern China and Korea, released and escaped from captivity in some areas of England. The UK populations were introduced in 1896, and established in the wild in England since 1940s. Up to 650 adults in the wild with 600-900 free ranging in parks. Population decreases associated with increasing populations of another introduced species -Muntiacus reevesi Major mortality incident in park population in 1930s blamed on enteritis. |
