Management and Conservation Organization (OMYC), Uaxactún - Guatemala The 140 mestizo and indigenous families of Uaxactún, in the heart of the Mayan Biosphere Reserve, have a long history of conserving their natural heritage, and have been supported by the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) to sustainably manage resource extraction within an 84,000-hectare forest concession. Concession rents are supported by WCS, which also provides support for the harvesting and marketing of non-timber forest products, ecotourism ventures, minimal impact timber use, and the conservation of game species.
