Venezuela (Bolivarian Republic of)
National Celebrations
For Venezuela, biodiversity is a natural patrimony, key for the development were to obtain goods for subsistence. So, the celebration of 2010 is an opportunity for Venezuela to build alliances and strength to become a better world. For this occasion Venezuela has created inter-ministerial commissions to plan activities to celebrate International Year of Biodiversity with the participation of local communities and respecting traditional knowledge.
International Year of Biodiversity will be launched on December 15, 2009 from the Parish of Catia in Caracas, one of the most popular areas. We will commemorate at the same time, in front of several ministers, the people who died fighting for diversity: "for the leaves, the trees, the men and the fallen women" ( “por las hojas, los árboles, los hombres y las mujeres caídas”). There will be 23 state celebrations at zoos and aquariums around the country. There will be a mural with national and international achievements of the international year, the creation of a logo that complements the image of the official logo, it is two hands a red one, that symbolizes the Bolivian revolution and a green that is emphasizing the environmental struggle with the phrase "Conservation with social commitment is revolution," (“conservación con compromiso social es revolución”), which represents the ideology necessary to achieve the "supreme social happiness" second objective of our National Plan.
