  366 gestes pour la biodiversité

"Stop biodiversity loss at Nagoya summit!"

On January 28, 2010, The Netherlands celebrates the launch of the International Year of Biodiversity. The Minister of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality and the Minister of Education, Culture and Science will attend the festivities. It will be a high-level event which also celebrates the launch of the Dutch National Center of Biodiversity: NCB Naturalis. This state of the art institute will assemble, make accessible and exhibit the largest part of the Dutch natural history collections of plants and animals. The establishment of the National Center of Biodiversity is one of the ways in which the Dutch Government contributes to the national as well as international conservation of biodiversity. It will provide significant support for public information and scientific research and education on the subject of biodiversity.

Organized by: NCB Naturalis and the Dutch National Committee IYB2010.
Contact: Harald Wouters, NCB Naturalis and the Dutch National Committee IYB2010.

Biodiversity loss and the global water crisis - A fact book on the links between biodiversity and water security
Globally we are facing a water crisis. This booklet aims to highlight the links between this water crisis and biodiversity loss. Both are the result of the same root causes and both problems reinforce each other. The booklet draws on the knowledge and understanding developed by Wetlands International and its partners over many years and is supplemented with key information from other, peer reviewed studies. Happy Stones

www.stapelmuur.webklik.nl
The mission of the non-profit organization Happy Stones, is to preserve the ancient craft of dry stone walling, to raise awareness of the importance to preserve, and to rebuild these walls. Dry stone walls form a microclimate for more than 200 species, from whom many on the red list for endangered species. They offer a huge biodiversity function, but many walls are vanished. A group of volunteers (included a Swiss specialist) started a website, as a basis to work from. With training courses for youngsters and adults, presence on fairs, and starting on microscale building walls, Happy Stones is raising consciousness and awereness that we still can restore the damage done.
