Jordan celebrated the International Day for Biodiversity
.
24 May 2010, under the sponsorship of H.E the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Environment convened the main celebration of the International Year of Biodiversity on Monday 24th May, 2010. The meeting was attended by the Minister of Environment, Minister of Education and the president of the syndicate of journalist and several stakeholders. IUCN, the Royal Botanical Garden and the Royal Society for Conservation of Nature participated also in the event. Several presentations were made on the progress towards 2010 target and Jordan efforts in this regard.
At the event, awards were distributed to students who won the competition organized by the Ministry of Environment on biodiversity. Awards were also distributed to journalists- winners of the best articles on Zarqa river- one of the most degraded ecosystems in Jordan.
